Super Bowl Tickets- Hudson to Sing National Anthem by Brent Warnken

The Super Bowl is a coveted performing stage for many artists as it is one of the most watched programs on television. For Super Bowl XLII, which airs on February 2, 2009, up-and-comer Jennifer Hudson will take over the duties to sing the National Anthem at the beginning of the game. Singing at the Super Bowl will put her in good company as the legendary Bruce Springsteen will be singing at halftime. Last year, over 148 million people in the United States watched the Super Bowl. The performance holds even more weight for Hudson as it marks her first public performance since the loss of her mother, brother and nephew in Chicago. Mother Darnell Hudson Donerson, brother Jason Hudson and nephew Julian King were all killed in her mother's home in October. Hudson's brother-in-law is charged with the crime.

Prior to the tragedy, Hudson was already making a name for herself as one of the top new names in the music industry. After performing on a Disney cruise ship, Hudson tried out for the third season of American Idol. She not only made it, but continued to impress the judges with her amazing vocals and range throughout the competition. She was eliminated earlier than many expected, and Fantasia Barrino ended up taking the coveted title of American Idol. Not about to have her musical dreams dashed, Hudson won the role of Effie White in the 2006 film Dreamgirls, which had previously made waves on Broadway. The role not only put her alongside greats like Beyonce, it also won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Other awards followed from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Screen Actors Guild. Her rendition of the song "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls won her critical acclaim as well. The performance put her in elite company.

In no time, Hudson was ready to start working on a debut album, and a self-titled album was released on Arista in September of 2008. Prior to the album's release, Hudson dropped the lead single "Spotlight," which reached number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as well as making it onto five other charts. Another single, "If This Isn't Love," also made it onto the charts and certified that her album would be a success. The album featured guest spots by T-Pain and Ludacris and combined styles of pop, R&B and more. Her vocal range has lent to comparisons to greats like Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston, and she doesn't disappoint on her release. Hudson's debut ended up reaching number two on both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and the Billboard 200.

Jennifer Hudson's talent is undeniable and those who have Super Bowl tickets will have an extra treat hearing her voice sing the national anthem. The music world has been incredibly supportive during Hudson's grief, which is most likely why she is able to come back to performing. Find out more about Hudson or the Super Bowl online.
